Bitsy wasn't one of our dogs, and
I never even got to have the opportunity to meet him in person, but he touched my heart just the same, which is why he has a page here. He has a full site of his own that his mom made for him here. This memorial page is just something that I needed to do for him on my own. I guess it's a way for me to mourn.
I just discovered, when I was getting his birthday for this page, that he has the same birthday as my best friend, Andrew! How cool is that??
I was first "introduced" to Bitsy Baby Boy just several short weeks ago, but it seems as though I've been following his antics, ups and downs for so much longer than that!
His mom is on the Pitbull mailing list that I am on, and that is where I became
aquainted with the adora-bull Bitsy Baby and his doting and loving parents, Pam and Rick..
Little Bitsy and his 12 siblings were the product of inbreeding, born of a brother and sister pairing. His mommy quite literally saved his life the day he was born, when his birth mother rejected him and his heart stopped. Pam and Rick bottle fed him, in addition to going over to his birth mom's house 3 days in a row and holding her down so that the little pup could nurse and get at least some of the immunities and nutrients from his mother's milk.
Despite the protections that their heroic measures to help him nurse, which undoubtedly contributed to his being able to have the time on this Earth that he did, it soon became clear that Bitsy was far more delicate than most Pittie breeds, due to immune deficiencies and other health issues.
That didn't stop them though! Bitsy's mom and dad rose to the occasion and did whatever was needed every time a new illness or injury came up, determined to give their baby boy the best life possible.
Bitsy was perhaps the most pampered pittie I have ever known... He even had his own crib!!
He had quite the extensive wardrobe too LOL.. And just looked cuter than you could ever imagine in his little pants and shirts that his parents dressed him in.
He was so obviously the focal point of him mommy and daddy's lives, and I'm certain that he knew it.
If only every "unwanted" dog could have humans like this in their lives... What a better world this would be!
Pam and Rick were able to give Bitsy almost 2 years full of love, nurturing and companionship that he would never have had if Pam hadn't been there the day of his birth.
On May 22, 2006, Bitsy hed yet another setback with his latest injury, and this time he just wasn't handling it like he did before. It was obvious that he wasn't happy, and that things were only going to get worse for him, so his mommy and daddy had to make the heartbreaking decision to do what was best for their sweet boy and end his suffering. His final vet appointment was set for the following evening, giving Bitsy and his family one last day to share love and affection. For the entirety of his last day, Bitsy was finally allowed to do all of the things his fragile condition had prevented him from doing for so long. He spent the day eating what he wanted, playing and romping in the yard and running, just like he had always wanted to but couldn't.
At about 3:45, my time (PDT), I started preparing my altar for the time I planned to devote to being there in spirit for
Bitsy's send off from this plane. The bit of blue candle at the bottom and the pieces of blue wax being melted to make his white candle prettier are from a healing candle that was burned for him a couple weeks ago.
At 4pm my time, 7pm Bitsy's time, it was time to begin the vigil/meditation for him and his family. I truly felt as though I made some connection with them, and especially Bitsy
during the ritual.. I could almost physically feel his paw in my hand.
At 4:21, I no longer felt any connection from him and it felt "over", so I observed in silence for a few more minutes and then left his candle to finish burning and help guide his spirit to the bridge, where I am sure he will joyfully reunite with old friends and make plenty of new ones while he waits for
his loved ones still on this Earth to join him so they can make the crossing together.

Enjoy your time at the bridge little Bitsy boy. Run, jump, tug, romp, and know that you are loved beyond what words can say! I look forward to meeting you one day, sweet puppy.
